Round Rock's 2025 water quality report gives an average hardness of 249 mg/L, about 14.55 grains per gallon, with table values from 100 to 358 ppm. It reports chloramine at 2.15 ppm on average, six PFAS below the minimum reporting level, and says the system meets or exceeds all state and federal standards.

Finding the right report

The city posts its Consumer Confidence Report each year. The 2025 edition, published in June 2026, still carries an old "2019" heading on its first page, but its tables are labeled 2025 and its water loss section covers January through December 2025. Go by the tables.

Where the water comes from

The report names Lake Georgetown as the main surface source, the Edwards Aquifer for groundwater, and Lake Travis water treated by the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority. The city's website adds that the Brazos River Authority supplements Lake Georgetown from Lake Stillhouse Hollow and that aquifer wells supply typically under 5 million gallons a day.

Hardness: two numbers, one story

The text section says the average hardness is 249 mg/L, about 14.55 grains per gallon. The secondary constituents table lists hardness from 100 to 358 ppm, averaging 258. The figures differ slightly, but both land around 14 to 15 grains, which the U.S. Geological Survey scale calls very hard (above 180 mg/L). The low end of the table is moderately hard; the high end is near 21 grains. The city adds that this hardness can cause water spots and dry skin but does not damage plumbing.

The rest of the minerals

  • Calcium: 45 to 95 ppm, averaging 70.
  • Total alkalinity: 68 to 204 ppm, averaging 141.
  • Total dissolved solids: 302 ppm.
  • Sodium: 17 to 26 ppm, averaging 21.5.
  • pH: 7.0 to 8.0, averaging 7.53.
  • Chloride and sulfate: 54 and 30 ppm.

Disinfection, byproducts and PFAS

Chloramine averaged 2.15 ppm. Trihalomethanes peaked at a 65 ppb running average against an 80 ppb limit. In EPA's fifth unregulated contaminant monitoring round, PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS, GenX, PFBS and PFNA were all below the minimum reporting level; lithium, which has no federal limit, measured 9.33 to 13.5 micrograms per liter.

What the report leaves out

The report doesn't say which source is hardest or how hardness shifts across town, so it can't tell you your own number. It also covers only the city system; if your bill comes from a different provider, that provider's report is the one to read. And it describes the water leaving the city's system, not the pipes inside your house. A tap test fills all three gaps.

Turning the report into a decision

Spots and dry skin point to a softener installation. Taste and smell point to whole-house chloramine filtration. For budgets, the Round Rock water softener cost page lists published ranges.
